This weekend, the PGA holds its Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. GA. This season's final tournament features thirty professional golfers playing for the 2013 Championship and a $10 million bonus. Among these golfers are familiar names like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Sergio Garcia, and fierce competitors like Henrik Stenson, Adam Scott, and Zach Johnson, as well as the return of last year's champion, Webb Simpson. The first round of this tournament teed off on Thursday morning, and the day ended with Stenson grabbing an early lead with a par of -6, and Scott in second place at -5. Woods, playing for his third career playoff win, finds himself in 29th place with a par of +3.
It is no surprise that Stenson commanded this early lead after he tore up the PGA this past summer, and replaced Woods as the top ranked golfer. Stenson, playing with tendinitis in his left wrist, scored a remarkable five birdies in six holes for the highlight of the day. The Swedish golfer displayed dominance over the other golfers in the first of round play, and appears to be set in winning the tournament on Sunday.
Other highlights included Dustin Johnson and his six birdies, combined with four bogeys, for a par of -2. Johnson believes he can take the tournament if he continues to play the way he did in the first round. Billy Horschel, playing for the first time at the East Lake Golf Club, finds himself tied for third place and admits it will take a lot to beat out Stenson, Scott or Woods, but he is prepared for this uphill battle. Veteran Sergio Garcia hit four birdies and two bogeys and confessed there is still room for him to improve his game at this tournament. Garcia, who finished this tournament in second place in 2008, still finds himself in the tournament chase in an eight way tie for sixth place at a par of -2.
After only one round of play, it is still uncertain which golfer will run away with the tournament, $10 million, and this season's championship, although Stenson's outstanding play is making a strong argument for himself. However, there is that chance that Scott, Woods, Horschel, or anyone else can turn up the heat over the next three rounds to challenge Stenson. Especially if Stenson's tendinitis begins to act up. Tee off time for the second round is Friday morning at 11:40 AM.

As the race for the FedEx Cup comes to a close with the Tour Championship, there are a few key players making great strides to ensure their spots at the top of the bracket. Many golf greats are taking the course with shear determination to be the one that takes home the coveted $10 million prize. As the FedEx Cup finishes out it's last leg, golf fans are sure to see some amazing golf.
Contenders
All eyes are on Tiger Woods as top contenders vying for the FedEx Cup prize this season try to steal his cup. The field in contention include Henrik Stenson, Adam Scott, Zach Johnson, and Matt Kuchar. There was no doubt to who would be sitting at the top during this final stretch, but there are sure to be some interesting battles. Leading by 123 points, Tiger is no stranger to the top seat at this event. He has previously won the FedEx Cup twice and is in good standing to do it again. There is no doubt that the golf pro is looking to close this weekend, and relying on his previous experience here, he is definitely capable. 1,022 point behind Tiger, all eyes are on Matt Kuchar to make a dashing move to the top. Kuchar is one contender that could definitely overthrow Tiger in this event. Playing the best season of his career, Kuchar is a huge threat in this competition, having won multiple PGA events this year. He has played with tremendous determination, and everyone will be watching to see if it is enough to catch Tiger. But before Kuchar can move closer to the top, he has to pass Adam Scott and Zach Johnson, who are 230 and 509 points respectively behind Tiger.
Pivotal Points and Incredible Shots
Birdies have been the talk of the season as player after player has racked them up. These incredible shots have transitioned players back and forth, but the most shocking news was how bad veteran Rory McIlroy played this year. golf fans were shocked to see him, usually in the top contenders, slip way below his normal standard.
The back and forth race between Henrik and Tiger is making major buzz, and Matt Kuchar is anxiously waiting for something to open up for him. As this tournament continues, there is sure to be a lot more controversy, great shots, and all around amazing golf. For golf fans, this is definitely one that they will want to stick out watching until the very end.

Golf’s greatest tournament, The Masters, is over and there are still over 5 months of pro-golf left this year, so we were wondering what there is to look forward to in the coming weeks/months. Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the highlights:
Check out the ESPN golf schedule for the full list of this year’s golf tournaments.
As you can see, there is still a lot of golf to be played. In May we have The Players, the U.S. Open and Tiger’s Tournament (AT&T National) will follow in June. In July, The Open Championship will be played in England. The season will come to and end in August and September with the PGA Championship and Ryder Cup, respectively, with other tournaments scattered in between and after.
Will Bubba pick up his second major win? Will Tiger get back on track and play like the Tiger of old? How will Lefty and Rory finish up their seasons? Will we see any newcomers join the list of elite in today’s game? Only time will tell…
